Gamelan Sekar Jaya performs at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center's Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival. Led by renowned Master Balinese Artist I Dewa Putu Berata, GSJ features two large percussion orchestras the sweet and shimmering bronze Gamelan Angklung, a twenty-person ensembl'which traditionally accompanies temple ceremonies and cremation rituals in Bali; and Gamelan Jegog, a seventeen-person ensemble featuring giant bamboo marimbas with tubes up to eight feet long, noted for its rhythmic energy and exuberance.   Each ensemble will be accompanied by the dynamic and dramatic flare of Balinese dance, led by Balinese artist Ni Luh Andarawati We invite the audience to  enjoy the complex interlocking rhythms and virtuosic ensemble sensibility of Balinese gamelan, and the myriad expressions and delicate hand and eye motions of Balinese dance.
