Indigenous to the western region of Bali, gamelan jegog is a highly energetic type of gamelan music, performed on an ensemble of bamboo marimba-like instruments. The class will be taught by master gamelan jegog musician, I Wayan Gama Astawa, from the village of Tegalcangkring in West Bali and assistant teacher, Katie Harrell. Students will explore dynamic interlocking “kotekan” patterns, mallet technique, and the role of each instrument in the jegog ensemble. With only three ensembles in the entire world outside of Bali, join us for this rare opportunity to study this incredible type of gamelan with one of the most outstanding jegog musicians in Bali. There will be a 30 minute lunch break from 12:00pm-12:30pm. No prior experience is necessary. Age 11 and up.
December 2, 2017 - 10:00am - 2:00pm
