Gamelan Gong Kebyar Fundamentals: Session II

These 2 five-week class series are taught by Guest Music Director and master artist Pak Dewa Berata. Students will explore interlocking “kotekan” patterns, mallet techniques, expressions, and the role of different instruments in the gamelan ensemble. No prior musical training or gamelan experience is required - just bring your enthusiasm. This class is also a great opportunity for students with gamelan experience to improve their skills and try playing new instruments or continue their learning.

You will be learning on our gamelan gong kebyar ensemble, the most prevalent form of gamelan music in Bali. Named for the resonant gong, the ensemble’s most fundamental instrument, the 5-tone Gong Kebyar music is known for its virtuosity and acoustic brilliance. For ages 11 and up!
