This six-week course will be led by our guest dance director, Anak Agung Anom Putra. Students will be introduced to the foundational movements of classical Balinese dance, with a focus on dance styles classified by basic postures known as Agem. This course will center on Tari Laki, a traditional male dance form that is energetic and powerful. While historically performed by men, this dance can be learned and performed by anyone, making the class open to all.
Students of all genders are welcomed; students must be at least 12 years old. These classes may sometimes take place outside in the outdoor patio area of the banjar building, depending on the preference of the instructor.
Dr. Anak Agung Anom Putra, S.S.T. is an acclaimed Balinese dancer, choreographer, teacher, and artistic director from Ubud, Indonesia. Renowned for his expertise in both male and female dance, he earned Bali’s highest performing arts honor, the Adi Sewaka Nugraha Award, in 2022. Known as “Anom Baris” for his award-winning Baris performances, he directs Semara Ratih of Ubud and has served as a jurist for major dance competitions. A lecturer at the Hindu University of Indonesia, he holds a doctorate in the religious aesthetic power of Baris Tunggal.
