Introduction to Balinese Dance: Tari Perempuan Session I

  • Gamelan Sekar Jaya 3023 Shattuck Avenue Berkeley, CA, 94705 United States (map)

This six-week course will be led by our guest dance director, Ayu Sukmawati. Students will be introduced to the foundational movements of classical Balinese dance, with a focus on dance styles classified by basic postures known as Agem. This course will center on Tari perunpuan, a traditional female dance form that is elegant. While historically performed by females, this dance can be learned and performed by anyone, making the class open to all.

Students of all genders are welcomed; students must be at least 12 years old. These classes may sometimes take place outside in the outdoor patio area of the banjar building, depending on the preference of the instructor.
